What you keep with Takelight

What you give up

Takelight does not host your videos. There is no cloud share link, no page a viewer opens, no comments and no view counts. You send the file yourself by email, chat or a shared drive, or upload it to YouTube. If you send videos as links and want to know who watched them, a hosted recorder is built for that job and Takelight is not a replacement.

It also runs only in Edge 116 or newer, and the camera bubble is free. The MP4 needs H.264 encoding on your computer. If it is missing, Takelight saves WebM and says so before you start.

Free and Pro

Video recording is part of Pro, with no length cap, and Pro adds auto-zoom, the cursor spotlight, burned-in captions and unlimited step guides. The free plan makes step guides from your clicks and keeps ten. Pro is €39 for 6 months, €69 for a year or €139 for Pro forever. You get 7 days of Pro, free. The pricing table lists every difference.

Record a first video

  1. Install Takelight from Edge Add-ons, click its icon, then choose Record.
  2. Press Start recording. Edge asks whether to share your screen, one window or one tab. Tick Share audio if you want the sound.
  3. Press Stop and save. The video appears on the Recordings page, where you can play, edit, rename and download it.

Clicking through a task in a browser tab also gives you a written step guide for free. See how to create an SOP by clicking through the task. To compare a different tool, read the Screencastify alternative page.

Record without an account

Install is free. Nothing needs a sign-up, and the file stays on your computer.

Takelight is an independent product and is not affiliated with Loom or Atlassian.
